SOC 2 (Service Organization Control 2) is a compliance framework developed by the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). It evaluates how well an organization safeguards customer data based on five Trust Service Criteria: Security, Availability, Processing Integrity, Confidentiality, and Privacy.
A Type 2 report evaluates the design and operating effectiveness of controls over a period of time (typically 3–12 months), as opposed to a Type 1 report which only evaluates controls at a single point in time. Type 2 provides stronger assurance that controls are consistently applied.
